This is the latest 3.0 firmware/software/OS for your iPod Touch 2G.

It is the original update from apple, and can be jailbroken with redsn0w.

HOW TO:

1. Connect your iPod Touch 2G to computer.
2. Start iTunes 8.2 & Select iPod Touch from devices list.
3. Windows: Hold Shift down while clicking on 'Restore'
   Mac: Hold down Option key while clicking on 'Restore'
4. Locate the iPod Touch ipsw file, you just have downloaded
5. Do not disconnect till iTunes has completed updating iPod Touch

Thats it, now enjoy your iPod Touch 3.0 Firmware.

**Click on 'Check for update' after installing 3.0, to have the latest update**

Remember, this is only for iPod touch 2G!

you want to be very very careful. If this ends up being a GM you are stuck in testmode forever. There is no operational diff but your warranty is toast if your not a official developer.

So far all the versions Ive seen are GM. Im not grabbing this one but grab the GM that is around here on TPB and run a diff on the 2 files.

Please don't talk about something, you don't even know about. Don't you think it would be stupid if you were stuck at the same firmware forever? It's always possible to restore, when you put the ipod into DFU mode :)

Also, this isn't a GM - it's the real update.

You guys have probably used a restore.ipsw of the 2.2.1 version, and this is just the 3.0 version :)

downloaded the OS 3 from the other page, compared sizes: exactly the same. Installed THIS ONE on my ipod and now it's updated and working fine! :)

hopefully it works i tried 3 times to update to 3.0 by downloading from different torrents but while trying to restore i always ended up with a fucking 1604 or 20 error so i just gave up but imma try this one for the very last time


all i want to do is enable the bluetooth chip that the 2g has but if this doesnt work then ill just wait until somebody releases an app for the jailbroken 2.1

haha yeah i jailbroke it if it gets stuck with "waiting for reboot" on redsn0w then start over again i tried 3 times and the 3rd time it kept going with the proccess and finished jailbreaking...anyways thanks again Ibanez0r

don't worry, fixed it.. just a warning to others, don't install this until you've got iTunes 8.2, otherwise it'll fail and semi-brick your ipod touch!

To comfort anyone questioning this, don't! I'm a complete torrent noob AND a Mac noob XD and i just updated my iPod Touch very easily! works like a charm.

It's not that you have to use only 8.2 It's 8.2 minimum required for os 3.0

Using iTunes 9.0.2.25 it bricked iPod 2G, all four attempts. I would imagine it's the iTunes version that is causing this complication... If I wasn't so lazy I would get the right iTunes version.
Blackra1n needs to fully crack the iPod Touches, would be so much better for us all!

@Aeri: Bricked is a word that means absolutely unrecoverable; effectively turned into a brick. So either you had 4 iPod 2Gs and you bricked them all (take a bow) or you're using the word incorrectly and scaring the shit out of me.
